TWD: Cinnamon Squares

Tracey of Tracey's Culinary Adventures chose this week's TWD recipe, Cinnamon Squares, and I'm glad she did! To be honest, I don't know if I would've made this without this group. In the past, cinnamon and chocolate just didn't seem to be a good pair for me. But this cake, WOW!

It was very simple to put together; everything was mixed by hand. The batter was delicious on its own (yes, I licked the spatula!) and I was really excited to taste the finished product. Half of the batter was poured in the pan, topped with cinnamon/sugar and chopped chocolate, then the remaining batter went on top. After the cake was baked and cooled, it was spread with yummy chocolate.

My only problem with the cake is that my chocolate all sank to the bottom of the cake. Now, it didn't taste bad, but I didn't get that pretty swirl in the middle like Dorie did. I guess that's why she gets the big bucks, right? :)

Thanks to Tracey for picking this little gem of a cake. You can find the recipe at her blog.

I'm glad Tracey picked this recipe too! I would've never made it on my own either. The squares were so yummy!

A lot of my chocolate migrated to the bottom too, and I think it's because some of the pieces weren't finely chopped. I was as surprised to like this as you were (even though I love cinnamon and chocolate). Yours looks great!

It looks GREAT. I liked it, too, and didn't think I would because I don't usually like cinnamon and chocolate together.

Bummer that the filling sank to the bottom! But we definitely liked this one too ~

Mine sank, too. I was disappointed that I didn't have the pretty swirl in the middle of my cake, but I was not disappointed in the taste. It was delicious! Your cake looks great.

Glad you made it anyway, Cristine! Looks GOOOOOOOD!

As you know, I made the cake plain and topped it with Kahlua and vanilla ice cream, it tasted great! And yes, better the next day!

Hope you have a wonderful day!

I really liked this one too, and I'm so glad it was easy to make.

Your Cinnamon Square looks great. You can't tell that the chocolate sank to the bottom, but I wondered how Dorie got that pretty little swirl too. I guess that IS why she get the big bucks!

I agree. I would never had made it on my own either, but it looks fantastic!

Your square looks great! Too bad about the sinking swirl, but if you don't tell anyone they wouldn't know it wasn't supposed to be that way.

spatulas are made to be licked! That's why they are the perfect size for any human tongue. At least that is what my 400-lb aunt told me.

Glad you enjoyed! It looks lovely, even with the sunken ribbon. How did Dorie get such a picture perfect ribbon going?? :)

Not a recipe I would have chosen for myself either, but I loved it too! Yours looks great!

In the middle, on the bottom I don't care, just give a slice! Yum, I've really enjoyed everyone's posts and photos of this one!
