TWD: French Yogurt Cake with Marmalade Glaze

Oh yes, I'm back baking with TWD! This weeks recipe was French Yogurt Cake with Marmalade Glaze. I was really excited for this cake because Dorie gushes about it in book and it is apparantly a cake that most people in France make regularly.

That being said, I was unsure of the cake. First off, it wasn't very cake-y. I was expecting it to be more like pound cake, but it reminded me of lemon-poppy seed bread, but without the poppy seeds. Don't get me wrong, almost the entire loaf was eaten. It was really delicious. But, since I was thinking "cake" it totally threw me off. Once I started thinking "quick bread", I began to like it more! I really enjoyed it on day three with a nice big cup of coffee. YUM!

The only change I made to the recipe was the marmalade. It calls for lemon marmalade, but I only had orange, so that is what I used.

Thanks to Liliana of My Cookbook Addiction for choosing this week's recipe. You can find the recipe at her blog and, as always, check out the blogroll!

Grumpy really seemed to like this cake - meaning he went to the kitchen and took it out himself to eat it. I was more like you - wasn't really all that thrilled.

quick bread it was. But i thought that it was rather good. Made for an afternoon tea treat.

This recipe did tread that line between cake and bread. I just viewed it as "coffee cake" and life was fine! I'll bet yours was delicious with orange marmalade. And it's nice to have you back to TWD posting!

Isn't that funny - now that I think about it, it was very similar to a quick bread. But delicious all the same!

I had the same reaction about it being called a "cake"- I served it for breakfast this morning so I'm definitely thinking it was more of a bread than a cake!

I made an actual "cake" out of it, which made it more "cake-like" :)

It really is like a quick bread though. Glad to know that it help up so well! Day three with coffee sounds lovely.

How beautiful! I thought it tasted much better on the third day, too. Maybe our expectations influenced our enjoyment of it?

Isn't it funny how sometimes you are not sure about something until you start thinking about it as something else -- such as "this is a biscuit, not a muffin," or in your case, thinking of it as a quick bread rather than a cake. Glad you liked it once you made the mental switch! It certainly looks fabulous! Glad you are back baking with TWD!

Not thinking of it as cake made it easier to think of it as breakfast :) I love the picture though - whipped cream and lemon zest are perfect for this cake.
