TWD: Grandma's All Occasion Sugar Cookies

I feel like I've been a downer lately with TWD. I haven't been over the moon excited about some of the recent recipes. They have just been okay for me. Nothing that has stood out to be amazing.

This week is no different. I love sugar cookies, but I have a favorite recipe that I use and I guess I just don't like change. Don't get me wrong... these cookies were good! They just weren't my favorite.

I kept the dough plain because I wanted to experience the basic recipe. I sprinkled them with cinnamon and sugar and they reminded me of snickerdoodles.

Thanks to Ulrike of Kuchenlatein for choosing this recipe. Head over to her blog for the recipe and don't forget to check out the blogroll. I'm sure there are AMAZING sugar cookies out there today. :)

  1. I made mine pretty plain also. Like you, I prefer to taste the recipe, especially the first time around. And I like the taste of plain cookies. And I was out of time.
I'll be thinking of you when I'm in Germany; I've been to Southern Germany a few times and Northern Germany as well. We've seen Christmas markets on two previous trips, mostly in Bavaria, so this will be different. We love eggnog too!

  4. I'm sorry these didn't excite you! They kind of reminded me of the recipe for sugar cookies from the Better Homes and Garden's cookbook. My favorite ever though is my Nanny's soft sugar cookie.

  6. They look pretty, though! Sometimes, less is more, know what I mean? :o) Good luck baking Gingerbread People with your daughter! I can't wait to see/read all about it.

  7. I also stuck with the basic recipe, but cut them thicker for a nice chewy result. I decorated in several ways and overall really enjoyed them!

  16. I agree! Sugar cookie recipes are like choco chip cookie recipes. Everyone has their fave. Maybe next will be better. I don't have a fave buttery jam cookie recipe! :)

  17. These are a little too basic to be a favorite cookie, but that didn't stop me from eating a bunch of them

  19. Congratulations on all those awards.
    Beautiful Biscotti - YUMMMMM Chocolate!
    Doesn't everyone love eggnog?
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. I know sometimes its really hard to get excited about sort of an expected flavor. Guess that's why I sort of "played around." Oh well. Maybe the next cookie will be appealing. Thank you so much for stopping by for a visit. Counting Down for 18 days. Dither Dither Dither. How excited are you?

  21. Just a sprinkle of cinnamon is a true test of a sugar cookie. I totally understand your loyalty to your favorite sugar cookie; I am that way with my brownies. I liked these and am not bonded to another recipe, so I will probably make them again.

  22. Not my favorite either. But we do try. I prefer to roll mine as cut cookies just don't work out for me. Do look tasty tho.

  23. You don't like change either huh? I thought the recipe was OK. Do you have a better one to share? Do tell. I am going to make some for my Sunday brunch party. I wish you can attend! I have been TWD MIA for several weeks, need to get back into the game. I will post my sugar cookies tomorrow morning since night time pictures are caca. xoxo.
