TWD: Burnt Sugar Ice Cream

This ice cream really needs a new name. Burnt Sugar doesn't sound appetizing. Delicious caramel does! But, since I am taking over the renaming, I will call it "The fantastic ice cream that allowed me to conquer caramel for the first time". Sure, it's a mouthful, but given my track record with caramel, I think it is a well deserved name. :)

Dorie Greenspan was the first person to ever tell me (or in this case, write it in the recipe. You know, Dorie and I unfortunately aren't real life pals!) that when you pour in the liquid to the amber sugar, that it may harden up. No worries, though. Keep whisking and it will all work out.
You know what? She was right! Look below.... It is all smooth! I wonder how many batches of caramel I threw out because I thought it was ruined. This was definately a lightbulb moment for me!
The ice cream was so delicious and we really enjoyed it! I will definately make it again! Plus, it was nice to finally be able to break out my ice cream maker after the winter hibernation!

I have been a caramel failure in the past myself! Your ice cream looks yummy! I need to break mine out for Memorial Day weekend when my brother's family is home!

The Kitchen Aid has an ice cream maker attachment??? Oh no! I guess I bought an ice-cream maker in vain!

Anyway, I agree with you about the name. Although, you can burn the sugar like I did if you're not careful! LOL!

So fun to master caramel, huh! I think actual caramel is just taking sugar to that stage, then adding butter and cream. Good stuff!

Fabulous job on this recipe! I love seeing a fellow owner of the KA Ice Cream maker! .....i was just given one and I used it for the first time this past weekend. So much fun!
