TWD: Dulce de Leche Duos

Dulce de Leche, I could eat you with a spoon. Who needs to put you on or in anything? You are delicious all on your own!

Oh, but Dorie Greenspan suggests sandwiching you between two delicious cookies. I took it one step further and chose to dip you in chocolate. I'm sorry to tell you, Dulce de Leche... Also, if you can't find Dulce de Leche in your grocery store or if you would prefer to make it on your own (as I did), I followed this method:

Dulce de Leche or Confiture de Lait
Adapted from The Perfect Scoop


Preheat the oven to 425° F (220° C).


Pour one can (400 gr/14 ounces) of sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated milk) into a glass pie plate or shallow baking dish. Stir in a few flecks of sea salt.


Set the pie plate within a larger pan, such as a roasting pan, and add hot water until it reaches halfway up the side of the pie plate.


Cover the pie plate snugly with aluminum foil and bake for 1 to 1¼ hours. (Check a few times during baking and add more water to the roasting pan as necessary).


Once the Dulce de Leche is nicely browned and caramelized, remove from the oven and let cool. Once cool, whisk until smooth.


Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Warm gently in a warm water bath or microwave oven before using.

Oh gosh, these look incredible dipped in chocolate! And I've wanted to try David Lebovitz's DDL recipe - it looks pretty easy, and I bet the salt adds a nice dimension to it. Your cookies look amazing!

Great idea to dip in chocolate. We're they messy to eat or did the chocolate get hard? Since I'm not a DdL lover, the more chocolate the better.

Oh dipped in chocolate, yum! I had to do a rewind this week, didn't have the ingredients. Still want to make them though!

They look great dipped in chocolate! I used the same method to make my dulce de leche and it worked great.
