TWD: Caramel and Peanut Topped Brownie Cake
Another week, another delicious Dorie recipe. Before I get to the recipe, though, I want to start with a small apology. I have been out of the blog loop for the last week and haven't been checking any other blogs or leaving comments. I started reading the Twilight series last week and have spent every spare second finishing all 4 books. I haven't been able to put them down, so that has left little computer time. But, I only have about 200 pages left in the fourth book, so I will be back in full force now!
This weeks recipe was chosen by Tammy of Wee Treats by Tammy. This was a delicious brownie topped with caramel and peanuts and the topping almost reminded me of one of my favorite candy bars, Payday. It was incredibly delicious and I couldn't stop eating it. Okay, I did have some self control and only had one large piece, but I definately wanted more!
The only problem I came across was with the caramel. It was very caramely when I poured it on the cake, but the more it sat, it became kinda grainy. I don't know if I didn't mix the caramel enough or what... But, even so, it tasted great!
Thanks for a great choice, Tammy! Don't forget to check out the TWD blogroll!
Can't wait to see the pictures! This cake totally tasted like a candy bar, I think a number of people have mentioned that. I'm wondering if your caramel went grainy because the cream and butter weren't at room temperature? If they aren't, or if you stirred the sugar while it was cooking, you could have initiated some crystallization. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteYou're a genius! My butter wasn't cold, but probably not room temp. My cream came straight from the fridge. DOH! You live and learn, I guess!
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me know what I need to do different in the future!
I love Paydays! Your cake looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Let me get a slice of that! Great job, Cristine!
ReplyDeleteI know what its like going on a reading spree...Your cake looks absolutely delicious.
ReplyDeleteThat looks phenomenal with the ice cream. Don't you just love it when you become so absorbed in a book that you're willing to cast everything else aside? I love to get sucked in like that.

ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for the first book of the Twilight series from the library -- but the waiting list is very long. Sounds like it will be worth waiting for, though!
